I attended another informative and empowering NPO conference held by We Are Durban on 9th March 2018 at Olive Tree Church, Florida Road. The conference focused on giving organisations tips, advice and insight on how to keep track and report on their finances.
I had the opportunity to represent Ebukhosni Forty Three Forty at this event.
There were four sessions scheduled.
Practical Financial Management with Melissa Teixeira
This session focused on practical accounting and how to categorize your income and expenditure in the correct way. This always confused me and through this session I have a gained better understanding.
Budgeting with Tarryn Wright
Great budgeting tips for Tarryn, who also showed us the different types of budgets we should consider when planning the year.
Financial Planning with Terrence Ronald
Terence focused on financial planning at a personal level. Which is very important. Many of us give our time and resources to the people and the organisations we serve and very often forget about our own well being. As community servants it's important that we have our personal financial planning in order to be good examples to those we lead.
Audit Preparation with Lungelo Njoko
Preparing for an audit can be stressful but Lungelo advised that we should keep our records in order all the time so we don’t run around when it is time for an audit. “ We should do things over a period of time and not at a point in time.”
Managing financial records is something I find tedious and challenging, however this is extremely important. Organisations need to be transparent and accountable if they wish to secure long term and consistent funding and partnerships from the local and international businesses or government.
The We Are Durban conferences are well put together, informative and great for networking with like minded individuals who are changing the world in their own unique ways.
