Take a Hike #2 - Krantzkloof Nature Reserve

I spent this Human Right’s Day with my wife, nephew and 4 of the youth from our youth group at Krantzkloof Nature Reserve in Kloof. We thought it would be a good day for a hike as it was a sunny Wednesday morning with clear skies. We have never been to the Kranztkloof Nature Reserve before, so it was a first for us all.

The nature reserve is nothing short of beautiful. It is the ideal place to reflect while appreciating nature. However, you must be careful as the viewing areas are close to the trail and unfenced. Not for the faint hearted.

We chose to hike the Molweni Trail which is approx. 12.6km return. Hiking down the trail was fun and exciting, however the journey back was challenging.

Despite the heat and falling to the ground once or twice you forget all that when you reach the base of the trail. You are greeted by breathtaking waterfall and cool water to refresh yourself with.

There is a picnic site where you can relax and possibly enjoy a braai after your expedition.

Entrance fees are:

Adults – R30

Children – R15

Would I do it again. For sure. However, I would like to explore the other trails at the reserve.

Remember to carry lost of water, wear steady shoes, and perhaps pack an energy bar or two (DO NOT LITTER)
